Michael Fassbender is returning to a leading role in a South Korean science-fiction action film titled Hope, marking a notable comeback after a relatively quiet period following David Fincher's The Killer and the commercially overlooked 2025 spy thriller Black Bag. The film is a creature feature in which a huge alien emerges near a remote harbour town and begins destroying everything around it, forcing locals to hunt it down while protecting residents. Unusually, Fassbender plays one of the hostile extraterrestrials rather than a human hero.

Fassbender stars alongside his real-life wife, Alicia Vikander, who also plays one of the antagonistic aliens. Hope premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in May, where it became one of the most discussed titles in the line-up.
