Michael J. Fox will receive the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award at the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards, in recognition of his work on Parkinson's disease research and advocacy. The award, presented by the Television Academy and the Bob & Dolores Hope Foundation, will be given out during the ceremony broadcast on NBC on 14 September.

Fox, who disclosed his young-onset Parkinson's diagnosis in 1998, founded The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research two years later, which has since become the world's largest nonprofit funder of Parkinson's research. Beyond his advocacy, he is a five-time Primetime Emmy winner with 19 nominations to date, including this year for Shrinking, and has previously received the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and promotion to Companion of the Order of Canada. Previous Bob Hope Humanitarian Award recipients include Oprah Winfrey, George Clooney and Sean Penn.
