Microsoft is ending OneDrive synchronisation support for older versions of Windows 10 from 15 August 2026, meaning those systems will no longer receive client updates, fixes or security patches. The change will not immediately stop the service from working, but Microsoft has confirmed it will no longer offer technical assistance or guaranteed functionality, pushing affected users towards either the web interface or an upgrade to Windows 11.

Windows 10 22H2 is unaffected for now, with sync support continuing until 10 October 2028, but earlier versions lose support next month. Microsoft says the move brings OneDrive in line with its Windows lifecycle policy, allowing it to focus investment on supported operating systems; Microsoft 365 file sync services are also affected, though existing installations may keep working without guarantees. Users on unsupported versions can still access files via the OneDrive website, or consider alternatives such as Nextcloud, which supports Windows 10 1809 onward as well as Linux.
