Microsoft has introduced a Copilot “super app” spanning chat, Office, coding and autonomous agents, alongside a pricing model that combines monthly user subscriptions with usage-based charges. The subscription covers everyday features such as Copilot in Microsoft 365 apps, while more advanced, compute-intensive tools require extra payment as they are used.

The additional charges depend on the models, retrieved context, task duration and tools involved, so complex jobs may consume more credits. Administrators can enable usage billing, set spending limits and alerts, and monitor costs. Analyst Simon Baxter said organisations will need stronger cost controls, particularly where agents run without staff prompts; he cited public-sector bodies such as NHS England, which may find variable agent costs harder to budget than fixed per-user licences. The UK competition watchdog is already investigating a separate Microsoft Copilot subscription change.
