## Key points

- Many voters say opposition is driving their midterm choices.
- Democrats hope to gain seats and challenge Trump’s agenda.
- Voters cite issues from living costs to gun rights.

## Summary

With two days until the US midterm elections, voters interviewed across the country said opposition to the other party or to the Trump administration was shaping their choices more than enthusiasm for their own side. Control of Congress is at stake, and the result could affect how much Democrats can challenge President Donald Trump’s legislative agenda.

Democrat-leaning voters cited concerns including corruption, the cost of living, democracy, immigration enforcement and foreign policy; some said they had previously supported Republicans but were switching. Republican-leaning voters pointed to social policies, abortion, gun rights and fears about socialism. The article reports voters’ views rather than polling, and offers no figures on how representative the interviews were.
