Acclaimed British filmmaker Mike Leigh has indicated his upcoming film "Tender Loving Care" will mark the conclusion of his directing career. The filmmaker, known for celebrated works including the Palme d'Or-winning "Secrets & Lies" and cult favourites such as "Naked," shared this assessment in a recent interview, citing physical constraints that limit his ability to continue working behind the camera.

Leigh's decision stems from myositis, an autoimmune condition that causes progressive muscle weakness and inflammation, particularly affecting his legs and hands. The director explained that his mobility challenges—requiring assistance to stand and relying on a walking stick—make the demands of filmmaking increasingly difficult, and noted that theatre work presents even greater physical hurdles. Though myositis lacks a cure, medical treatments are available to alleviate symptoms.
