- Original Switch owners will get a digital upgrade path, but its terms were not announced.

## Summary

Mojang announced that a native version of Minecraft for Nintendo Switch 2 will launch on 27 October 2026. The release is intended to take advantage of the newer console’s hardware through the default-enabled “Vibrant Visuals” presentation, which adds enhanced lighting and shadow effects. Mojang also said compatible Minecraft Marketplace content will support the visual treatment, while the Nintendo-exclusive Super Mario Mash-Up Pack is to receive an accompanying visual update.

The company said current Minecraft owners on the original Nintendo Switch will have a digital upgrade path, but did not provide its price, eligibility rules or other terms at the time of the announcement. The existing Switch version can already run on Switch 2 through backwards compatibility; the new release is a separate native version with the additional visual features. Mojang noted that Vibrant Visuals will not be available in some circumstances, including split-screen play and certain Marketplace worlds or content.
