A former mistress’s testimony may have given Ohio prosecutors a possible motive in the murder case against former “American Idol” contestant Caleb Flynn, according to former prosecutor Josh Ritter. Flynn is accused of killing his wife, Ashley, and staging the scene as a burglary; he denies aggravated murder and other charges.

Alleigha Botner described an 18-month affair and more than 107,000 messages, including alleged statements by Flynn expressing hatred and discussing ways to kill Ashley. She also testified that Flynn planned to discuss divorce with relatives and obtain a burner phone shortly before Ashley was killed, while acknowledging that she herself had exchanged messages about wanting Ashley dead.
