The mistrial announcement emerged just two days after Patrick Clancy, her ex-husband, was photographed during a lengthy solo walk through Manhattan.

The court decision reignited public anger over cryptocurrency betting platform Polymarket and podcaster Amanda Hirsch, whose social media post promoted the platform's sponsored prediction of a "Not Guilty" verdict. The promotional content drew swift and substantial criticism for its apparent callousness in monetising and gambling on a tragedy involving the deaths of three children. Hirsch subsequently deleted the post and issued an apology, expressing regret that she had not recognised the fundamental inappropriateness of the sponsored content.
