Nexus Mods, the world's largest mod-sharing platform, has acquired SteamDB, the independent database tracking Steam game data, in a move aimed at giving the beloved but under-resourced site more stability. SteamDB was run largely single-handedly by developer xPaw, who had been seeking a partner able to provide the funding, development capacity and long-term security he could no longer sustain alone; Nexus Mods says it shares similar values and sees SteamDB's detailed version-tracking data as valuable for helping modders avoid game-breaking update conflicts.

SteamDB, launched in 2013 by Marlamin and xPaw, logs player counts, price history and update data across the entire Steam catalogue, and had relied heavily on community-donated Steam keys. Nexus Mods says the site will keep its name and continue operating much as before in the short term, with changes happening behind the scenes as a dedicated team gradually takes over management, improves infrastructure and security, and begins funding keys directly. xPaw will assist with the transition over the coming months and expressed confidence the project is in good hands.
