Fox has given a series order to Mammoth, a comedy from Modern Family alumni Christopher Lloyd and Danny Zuker, marking a rare expansion of the network's live-action sitcom output. The show is based on a BBC Two format and follows a high school gym teacher frozen in an avalanche in 1983 who is thawed out decades later, only to find the modern world has moved on without him. It matters because Fox currently has just one live-action, half-hour comedy on its schedule, and the pairing of Lloyd and Zuker, both multiple Emmy winners, signals a significant bet on traditional sitcom storytelling.

Mammoth centres on Coach Tony Mammoth, who returns to his old job still clinging to 1980s style, attitudes and his beloved Trans-Am, clashing comically with contemporary rules and relationships. Lloyd and Zuker serve as writers, co-showrunners and executive producers, alongside Mark Linsey and Angie Stephenson of BBC Studios Los Angeles and Mike Bubbins, who created the original BBC series. Fox Television Network president Michael Thorn praised the project's blend of comedy and heart, and the series is scheduled to premiere in the 2027-28 season.
