## Key points

- Fog hid much of Exeter’s fireworks and drone display.
- Organisers cited still air trapping fog and smoke.
- The event raised £55,000 for charities.

## Summary

Thick fog obscured fireworks and a drone show at Exeter’s Bonfire Night event, leaving many spectators unable to see much of the display. The poor visibility prompted complaints about the decision to proceed and the timing of a pause in the fireworks, while similar fog affected displays elsewhere.

Organisers Exeter Round Table said fog and smoke had settled over the display because there was almost no wind, and apologised to disappointed attendees. The event raised £55,000 for Devon Air Ambulance and local charities, and organisers said they planned to return next year. Fog also disrupted flights at Manchester Airport, where 15 aircraft were diverted, and affected a football broadcast in the region.
