## Key points

- Carer Lara Jones stole £8,000 of jewellery from an elderly client.
- Hidden cameras caught her during her second shift.
- She was jailed for three years.

## Summary

A carer was jailed after secretly recorded footage showed her stealing jewellery from an elderly man’s home in Oxted, Surrey. The case has heightened the family’s distress and made them wary of bringing carers into the home, despite needing respite support.

Lara Jones, 50, was caught on her second shift on 26 November 2025, after the family noticed an earring and found other items missing. Police later recovered the stolen jewellery, worth £8,000, and Jones was convicted of three counts of burglary at Guildford Crown Court. She received a three-year prison sentence and was ordered to pay a £228 victim surcharge.
