Fugitive jailed after ramming police cars during Coventry arrest
Jay Bennett, 33, was arrested by armed police at a Coventry gym after spending four months on the run following his escape from prison. He rammed police and other vehicles with his car as officers tried to stop him, in an attempted getaway in which nobody was injured.
Bennett escaped from HMP Sudbury in December, seven months into a nine-year sentence. He admitted absconding and three counts of driving while disqualified, and was convicted of dangerous driving, three counts of criminal damage and two counts of attempting to escape from custody. Warwick Crown Court jailed him for three and a half years on 28 September.
