## Summary

A van driver in Guildford offered a lift to PC Sperling, who was chasing a suspected shoplifter on foot after the person rode away on a bicycle. The officer and driver got ahead of the cyclist, allowing the officer to get out and make an arrest.

Surrey Police thanked the driver, saying officers had spotted someone suspected of stealing from a nearby shop on Woking Road. The incident is one of several recent cases in which members of the public have helped officers during pursuits, including a September chase in South Wales and an August pursuit in Twickenham.
