Krzysztof Orzechowski has been jailed after setting fire to two cars outside a family home in Slough, Berkshire, in the early hours of 9 March. The blaze damaged the vehicles and house, while the family escaped unharmed; the case highlights the serious risk to life posed by deliberate fires at occupied homes.

CCTV reportedly showed Orzechowski fleeing with his arm on fire after the cars ignited. Six days later, police pursued him after he failed to stop in a vehicle linked to the incident; he reached 100mph before crashing and being arrested. At Reading Crown Court, the 32-year-old admitted arson with intent to endanger life and dangerous driving, receiving five years and seven months’ imprisonment, a post-release driving ban of one year and a £228 surcharge.
