Dramatic helmet-camera footage has captured a mountain guide allegedly attacking a climber on a narrow, exposed ridge roughly 10,000ft up Austria's Grossglockner mountain, after being confronted for barging past the climber's wife. The incident, which occurred on 22 August on the Mürztalersteig route leading to the Erzherzog-Johann-Hütte refuge, has prompted a police investigation, disciplinary action from the Austrian Mountain Guides Federation and the guide's surrender of his licence.

The Polish climber, who filmed the confrontation, said he had deliberately left space for his wife as she lowered herself down a rope when the guide, who was leading two clients, pushed between the couple. Video shows the argument escalating into insults and threats before the guide turns and grabs the climber, halting other walkers on the precarious section. Police in Matrei in Osttirol are investigating suspected endangerment of physical safety, and the Kals mountain guides association has ended its collaboration with the guide. The climber, who shared the footage online to hundreds of thousands of views, said overtaking was normal in the mountains but argued a professional guide owed others "basic courtesy, good judgement and, above all, responsibility".
