A safari vehicle carrying Swiss tourists plunged into the crocodile-infested Mara River in Tanzania's Serengeti National Park after the driver lost control while rushing to view the wildebeest migration crossing. Footage filmed from another safari vehicle shows the Jeep swaying and passengers falling out onto the riverbank, just metres from crocodiles and wildebeest, before it went off a cliff edge and nose-dived into the water. The incident has drawn attention to unsafe driving practices among tour guides competing to give tourists the best view of the migration.

The Tanzania National Parks Authority (TANAPA) confirmed that all four tourists and the driver escaped unharmed and were able to exit the vehicle safely. The authority said the crash happened on Sunday afternoon in the Kogatende area as the driver rushed to catch sight of the wildebeest crossing, and it urged drivers, visitors and tour companies to strictly follow river-crossing rules and safety procedures. Eyewitnesses said it is common for local tour drivers to race each other to reach animals first, while the Great Migration itself continues, with millions of wildebeest currently pushing north through the Serengeti towards the Mara River.
