Tommy Robinson threatens Dispatches journalist amid perjury investigation

Daily Mail · 1 hour ago

A Channel 4 Dispatches documentary has captured far-right activist Tommy Robinson issuing threats against reporter Matt Shea after being told the programme would investigate his finances and alleged perjury. In a voice message, Robinson denounced Shea and "declared war" on him and his outlet, insisting he had no hidden wealth and only received a set wage. The documentary alleges Robinson lied under oath during a 2022 High Court hearing about his involvement in a company run by his ex-wife, with a former director of public prosecutions suggesting the claims could warrant a police investigation into perjury and fraud.

The Dispatches investigation centres on Lennon Consultancy Limited, a company run by Robinson's ex-wife Jenna Lennon that handled donations from his supporters. Although Robinson told the High Court in June 2022 that the firm was not his and he knew little about it, Channel 4 says it has seen a 2018 legal agreement he signed on the company's behalf, along with emails showing him managing staff and directing payments. The programme also cites documents indicating Robinson and Lennon each received £70,000 dividends within a year, and features individuals, including a grooming gang survivor, who say they never received funds raised on their behalf. Sir Max Hill KC, former director of public prosecutions, called the evidence "deeply concerning" and said it suggested Robinson had not told the truth in court.
