Border officers at the Port of Dover intercepted a Ukrainian van driver attempting to smuggle around £100,000 worth of parts stripped from eight high-end stolen cars out of Britain for sale on the black market. The seizure, featured in the Channel 4 documentary Dover 24/7: Britain's Busiest Port, highlights the trade in dismantled stolen vehicles — dubbed "car cannibalism" — in which cars taken from UK streets are broken down and exported to evade detection.

The rundown delivery van was found to contain components from a Jaguar XE and four Land Rover Discovery vehicles. The driver claimed the parts were scrap metal he had bought online and wanted to "take home", but officers grew suspicious because some components had only been manufactured in recent years. Officer Steve from the National Vehicle Crime Intelligence Service (NaVCIS), who stopped the van, noted it appeared uninsured and was not registered to the driver; investigators later linked one LED light unit to a car theft just nine days earlier.
