Monica Bellucci Plays a Mother Who Yells and Is the “Victim of a Social Role” in Luca Guadagnino-Produced ‘Ketticè’
Italian coming-of-age drama Ketticè, produced in part by Luca Guadagnino and starring Monica Bellucci, was presented at the 79th Locarno Film Festival. The film follows a disaffected teenager in 2012 Palermo whose friendship with a more confident girl offers relief from his constrained home and school life, while Bellucci’s role explores parental frustration and generational disconnection.
Written and directed by Giovanni Tortorici, the film is his second feature after Diciannove and stars Salvatore Gallina and Rachele Testagrossa alongside Bellucci. Bellucci plays the boy’s mother, an aristocratic Sicilian wife who feels trapped by social expectations, while Tortorici said a reference to youthful admiration for Mussolini reflected the contradictory culture of the Berlusconi era; PiperPlay is handling international sales.
