## Key points

- More Mandelson appointment papers are being prepared for publication.
- Some documents may be redacted or remain withheld.
- The Met investigation into alleged misconduct is ongoing.

## Summary

The Cabinet Office says further documents about Lord Mandelson’s appointment as US ambassador are now being prepared for publication, likely before Parliament’s Christmas recess. Some papers previously held back can be released without prejudicing the police investigation, though others will remain withheld at the Metropolitan Police’s request.

The documents are being prepared in response to a motion passed by MPs and may be redacted to protect national security or international relations. The Met is investigating allegations that Mandelson passed market-sensitive government information to Jeffrey Epstein while serving as a minister. Mandelson was arrested in February on suspicion of misconduct in public office; he says he did not act criminally or for personal gain and is co-operating with police.
