England supporters heading to a World Cup quarter-final against Norway in Miami are facing extraordinary costs simply to attend, including parking fees of up to £3,000 — charges that apply even to disabled fans and those with mobility issues. The story matters because it highlights growing anger over the affordability of what is being billed as the most expensive World Cup in history, with ordinary fans effectively priced out of attending matches.
The official parking partner, SeatGeek, was asking $4,277.12 (£3,194) for a space in a lot near the stadium specifically reserved for wheelchair users and those with limited mobility, at a venue 17 miles from downtown Miami with poor public transport links. Last-minute match tickets were selling for a minimum of $1,900 (£1,400), rising to $4,800 (£3,500), with resale prices on FIFA's website remaining high despite Brazilian fans trying to offload tickets after Norway's shock defeat of Brazil. Fans gathered in Miami's beachfront bars, with some, such as Phil Giles from Chelmsford, saying they might simply watch the game from a bar if prices did not fall.
- Disabled England fans charged up to u00a33,000 to park at the stadium.
- Match tickets ranged from u00a31,400 to u00a33,500 at the last minute.
- Poor transport links leave fans little alternative to costly parking.
