A 34-year-old mother of two, Hannah Benfield, has been found dead at the base of cliffs on Alderney, a Channel Island, and a 44-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder. This marks the first suspected murder on the island in 30 years, shocking the close-knit community of just 2,167 residents. Local leaders have called for the community to come together and support Ms Benfield's family during this tragic incident.

Alderney, the most northerly Channel Island situated 20 miles off Guernsey, has a reputation for natural beauty and peaceful living. Ms Benfield's body was discovered in the sea at the base of The Guns, a cliff area on the island's western coast, on Monday morning following a search operation that began after emergency reports were made late Sunday evening. Police are not seeking any other suspects and have appealed for dashcam footage from the evening of Sunday, 27 September. Guernsey Police expressed condolences to the family and thanked the community for their support.
