Authorities said their review found Darwin had been left unattended and noted heavy snowfall at the scene. The sheriff’s office said it conducted a comprehensive investigation, while prosecutors reportedly concluded there was insufficient evidence to secure a conviction; the driver’s identity has not been publicly disclosed to Fernandez, although officials say it was provided to her lawyer. A protest and candlelight vigil were held outside the county courthouse, with demonstrators calling for justice.
