Motörhead guitarist Phil Campbell died aged 64 after surgical complications
Phil Campbell, the Welsh guitarist who played with legendary British rock band Motörhead from 1984 until the group disbanded in 2015, died on 13 March aged 64 from multi-organ failure. An inquest at St Pancras Coroner's Court heard that his death resulted from complications following necessary surgeries, including two liver transplants and bowel surgery at Royal Free Hospital in London.
Campbell had previously struggled with alcohol excess but had been sober for seven years before his death. Although his second liver transplant was initially successful, he subsequently developed further complications that led to bowel surgery and rapid deterioration in intensive care. The coroner concluded that Campbell's death could not have been prevented and resulted from recognised complications of the necessary surgical procedures.
