MPs draw up a list of Labour sex pests as a warning for Andy Burnham
Labour MPs are said to be compiling a dossier of colleagues facing allegations of impropriety, sleaze, bullying and sexual misconduct, intended as a warning to Andy Burnham as he prepares to become Prime Minister. According to the reports, the aim is to dissuade Mr Burnham from appointing the named individuals to roles in the next government, so as to avoid repeating what those behind the list regard as the mistakes of previous administrations. The matter matters because it points to internal tensions within Labour at a moment of leadership transition, with Mr Burnham having reportedly secured the backing of 322 Labour MPs.
The list, partly seen by the Daily Mail and first reported by LBC, is said to name around 30 MPs and peers, including high-profile figures and ministers in Sir Keir Starmer's government, and has reportedly been spearheaded by three Labour women MPs. A senior Labour source described those on the list as people thought to be "sex pests", bullies or otherwise guilty of inappropriate behaviour. The move echoes an earlier episode less than four years ago when Warrington North MP Charlotte Nichols named 20 colleagues in an alleged "sexual harassment list"; she has distanced herself from the latest effort. One female government source criticised the operation as "totally appalling", arguing complaints should go to the parliamentary authorities rather than leaving three women to act as a "unilateral HR system".
