## Key points

- Byron Donalds is set to become Florida’s first Black governor.
- Symone Sanders Townsend questioned the political significance of his win.
- A media analyst said her remarks implied Black conservatives betray their race.

## Summary

MS NOW host Symone Sanders Townsend acknowledged Byron Donalds’ historic election as Florida’s first Black governor, then questioned what it meant politically, saying he would continue Ron DeSantis’ agenda. Her “all kinfolk ain’t skinfolk” remark prompted criticism that she was implying Black conservatives are at odds with their racial identity.

Donalds narrowly defeated Democrat David Jolly and is set to succeed term-limited DeSantis. Media Research Center analyst Tim Graham argued the comments demanded political conformity from Black Americans; Sanders Townsend also said Donalds had sounded similar to DeSantis when discussing policy on “The Breakfast Club”.
