MS NOW’s Jen Psaki calls Platner’s political career ‘enraging for all of us’
MS NOW host Jen Psaki used her show "The Briefing" on Wednesday to react to Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner's exit from the race, describing his political career as "deeply enraging" and "enraging for all of us". The comments matter because they reflect how a prominent Democratic-aligned broadcaster framed the collapse of a closely watched campaign, crediting the women who came forward with allegations rather than the political commentators celebrating his departure.
Platner withdrew after Politico reported that a former partner, Jenny Racicot, alleged in a 2021 account that he drunkenly entered her home uninvited and continued having sex with her despite her repeatedly telling him to stop; Platner has firmly denied the claims. The allegation followed a New York Times report featuring accusations from Lyndsey Fifield about his "unsettling" behaviour towards women. Psaki noted that Platner had won the Democratic primary after Governor Janet Mills dropped out over fundraising difficulties, arguing his earlier success signalled something worth heeding even though he was a "deeply flawed candidate".
