Multiple victims after helicopter goes down near scene of deadly bus crash in Los Angeles

Daily Mail · 9 hours ago

An NBC news helicopter crashed between two buildings in Chatsworth, Los Angeles, on Tuesday night while covering the aftermath of a separate fatal bus crash, killing the two crew members on board along with a pedestrian on the ground. Reporter Eliana "Eli" Moreno and pilot George Marciniw, both experienced aviation journalists, died when the NewsChopper4 aircraft suddenly lost altitude and went down in a nearby car park, sparking a large fire. The tragedy compounds an already deadly night in the area, drawing tributes from colleagues and expressions of condolence from city officials.

The helicopter came down near Nordhoff Street and DeSoto Avenue, close to where an SUV had earlier collided with a bus, killing two people and injuring six others. Moreno had been an aerial reporter since 2010 and joined NBC4/Telemundo around 2018-2019, while Marciniw was a veteran pilot with more than 14,000 flying hours; the pair had worked together since 2023. NBC4 anchor Colleen Williams broke the news live on air after losing contact with the crew, and a friend of the victims suggested the crash may have been caused by engine failure, though the cause remains unconfirmed.
