## Key points

- Murchie wants a much stronger Wales defence.
- Wales conceded 15 tries in three summer Tests.
- Japan pose a familiar but difficult challenge.

## Summary

Wales defence coach Peter Murchie says the team must improve significantly when they resume their Nations Championship campaign against Japan on Saturday. He was unhappy with the defence during the summer series and wants Wales to become harder to break down and more consistent.

Wales missed more than 100 tackles and conceded 15 tries across three summer Tests, winning only against Fiji. Murchie has had more time to prepare with the coaching group this campaign, but Wales have won just three of 12 Tests under head coach Steve Tandy. He says the priority is to deliver consistently and win matches, while warning that Japan are fit, skilful and difficult opponents.
