‘Murdered’ newborn baby was ‘stabbed 15 times by family’ at Sheffield home before body was dumped in outhouse, court told
Five people have appeared in court charged over the murder of a newborn baby, known as Baby S, who was found dead in an outhouse in the Wincobank area of Sheffield. Prosecutors allege the baby suffered 33 injuries, including 15 stab wounds, after being born on 30 August at a house in Holywell Heights, before being wrapped in a towel and blue bag and left on top of a washing machine. The case has drawn significant public attention given the extreme nature of the allegations and the number of family members implicated.
The baby's mother, 20-year-old Andrea Skopova, appeared alongside her boyfriend Peter Horvath Jnr, 19, and his parents Nina Horvathova, 37, and Peter Horvath Snr, 38, all charged with murder, causing or allowing the death of a child, and perverting the course of justice by cleaning the crime scene. A 15-year-old girl, who cannot be named, was also charged with perverting the course of justice, while an eight-year-old child was reportedly in the house at the time. All five defendants, who are Slovakian nationals, were remanded in custody at Sheffield Magistrates' Court to appear before Sheffield Crown Court, and two women aged 26 and 37 arrested on suspicion of murder remain on bail.
