Murdered schoolgirl’s killer dies just two years into her sentence

Daily Mail · 3 hours ago

Donna Marie Brand, who was serving a life sentence for the 1996 murder of 14-year-old Caroline Glachan, has died aged 47, two years after being convicted. Her death ends her imprisonment but does not alter the convictions that resolved one of Scotland’s longest-running cold cases.

Brand died at Forth Valley Hospital on Wednesday, reportedly from natural causes, while serving her sentence at HMP Stirling. She, Robert O’Brien and Andrew Kelly were convicted in 2023 of luring Caroline to the River Leven in Renton, beating her unconscious and leaving her to drown; Brand was ordered to serve at least 17 years, while O’Brien and Kelly received minimum terms of 22 and 18 years respectively.

  • Caroline Glachan’s convicted killer Donna Marie Brand has died aged 47.
  • Brand had served around two years of her life sentence.
  • Authorities will report the death to the Procurator Fiscal.
