Marvel is preparing a fresh X-Men film series within the Marvel Cinematic Universe after Spider-Man: Brand New Day introduced Jean Grey, played by Sadie Sink. The reboot would bring a major Marvel property fully under Disney’s control after its purchase of Fox, but it arrives while superhero films face concerns over increasingly complicated continuity and audience fatigue.

Fox made 13 X-Men films over 20 years, while Sony retained Spider-Man’s film rights before partnering with Marvel Studios for later MCU entries. The new X-Men film is reportedly planned for May 2028 and directed by Thunderbolts’ Jake Schreier; reports also link Samara Weaving to Emma Frost and Kit Connor to Cyclops, though Disney has confirmed only Sink’s casting. Existing Fox-era characters, including Wolverine, Cyclops, Beast and Professor X, have appeared or are due to appear through alternate-universe storylines, but Marvel appears to favour a younger, clean-slate cast.
