## Key points

- JJ Gabriel says he dreams of winning the Ballon d’Or.
- The 16-year-old has verbally agreed to join Real Madrid.
- United could receive compensation if he leaves.

## Summary

Manchester United forward JJ Gabriel says winning the Ballon d’Or is his dream as he moves closer to joining Real Madrid. The 16-year-old has left United and relocated to Spain with his family, making the prospective transfer a notable loss for the club.

Gabriel remains registered with United and has been training alone in Spain; he and Real Madrid have verbally agreed terms, but no deal has been signed and there have been no club-to-club talks. United would be entitled to compensation, likely less because Real are outside the Premier League. Gabriel has an EU passport through his mother, and youth competition rules mean he could not play for both clubs in the same Uefa Youth League season; he scored a hat-trick in his final United appearance in September.
