Glyn Powell, one of six people jailed for the 1992 torture and murder of 16-year-old Suzanne Capper in Manchester, has died of cancer, having been released from prison in 2023 as the last of the killers to be freed. Suzanne's brother, Stephen Capper, now 46, said the death was "one off the planet" but vowed to keep campaigning until the others involved have died or breached parole, saying he could never stop fighting for his sister's memory.

Suzanne was held captive for seven days before her attackers doused her in petrol and set her alight, though she survived long enough to identify her killers to police before dying of her injuries. Powell, his estranged wife Jean, and Bernadette McNeilly were among those given life sentences, while Anthony Dudson also received life; Clifford Pook and Jeffrey Leigh received 15 and 12 years respectively for their roles, though they were not present when Suzanne was set alight. Stephen, who was 12 when his "best friend" and sister died, has lived with PTSD ever since, and to mark what would have been Suzanne's 50th birthday, he and her childhood friend Samantha Dale are launching a charity in her memory and have written a book about her life.
