Myst devs Cyan Worlds show off prototype for Project Anglerfish, a canned entry in the noted long-time RPS favourite series
Cyan Worlds, the developer behind Myst, has released a teaser trailer for a cancelled prototype game set in the Myst universe, codenamed Project Anglerfish. The studio spent around four months developing the concept over a year ago as a pitch intended solely for publisher consideration, but it never progressed beyond that stage; Cyan chose to share the footage publicly now as a tribute to the team's work on the project.
The teaser depicts a man in a green cardigan directing a guildsman to retrieve a book from a mansion, with the situation growing increasingly unsettling through breaking objects, tentacle-like growths, and the man's escalating, unhinged demands. Creative director Eric Anderson and development director Hannah Gamiel explained the game "couldn't move forward at the time" for unspecified reasons, though Cyan remains active on other unannounced Myst-universe projects. The disclosure follows a difficult period for the studio, which cut 12 staff, roughly half its workforce, last March while prioritising securing funding for its next title.
