Naga Munchetty to leave BBC Breakfast after 17 years
Naga Munchetty is leaving BBC Breakfast after 17 years to become the full-time presenter of Radio 5 Live Breakfast from January, taking on the role five days a week. The move ends her 12-year run as one of the TV programme's main hosts and forms part of a wider reshuffle of the BBC's breakfast schedules, with the departure of 5 Live Breakfast's current hosts, Rachel Burden and Rick Edwards.
Munchetty currently splits her time between BBC One's Breakfast three days a week and 5 Live's mid-morning show for the other three; she called the new role "an opportunity that was simply too good to pass up." Burden, who has hosted 5 Live Breakfast for 15 years, will take over Munchetty's Monday-to-Wednesday mid-morning slot, while Edwards will continue presenting the sport quiz Fighting Talk. Replacements for Munchetty on BBC Breakfast and for her new co-host on 5 Live have not yet been announced.
