Napalm Death Bring Grindcore to NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert: Watch

Consequence · 4 hours ago

Napalm Death have become the first grindcore band to perform on NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert series, bringing an uncompromisingly raw set to a platform better known for more polished, intimate performances. The appearance matters because it marks a notable expansion of the series’ musical range and exposes an extreme metal subgenre to a much broader mainstream audience. Rather than softening their approach, the band reportedly leaned into their abrasive style and explicitly voiced support for public broadcasting.

The UK band played eight songs in under 20 minutes, ending with “You Suffer”, their 1.32-second track recognised by Guinness World Records as the shortest commercially released song. Singer Barney Greenway said the group saw the session as a chance to reach more people but had no intention of toning down the performance, while also praising NPR and urging support for public access broadcasting. NPR producer Lars Gotrich said it was important to feature what he described as grindcore’s founding fathers, and the set even prompted moshing in the office audience.
