The breach raised serious concerns about safety at the network, with employees reportedly feeling shaken and questioning how such an incident could occur, prompting a significant overhaul of protocols to prevent similar breaches.

The intruder, identified as 41-year-old Andrew Truelove, allegedly broke in searching for weatherman Al Roker but instead confronted host Craig Melvin, lunging at him while shouting racial slurs on 16 July. One security guard was reportedly dismissed following the incident, after failing to intercept the intruder. New measures at the studio now include earlier arrival times for guests, stricter security-list checks and reduced entourage sizes, with insiders describing the building as having become "Fort Knox"-like, while Guthrie's personal security has also reportedly been increased.
