NCT 127, one of K-pop's longest-running acts, are marking their return with a seventh studio album, "Blingy," after a period disrupted by members' compulsory South Korean military service. In an interview with Billboard, five of the group's seven members reflected on a decade since their debut and discussed the demanding preparations for their comeback, including reworking choreography and vocal lines to accommodate lineup changes.

Group leader Taeyong enlisted in 2024 followed by Jaehyun, with both nearing completion of service by late 2025, while Doyoung and Jungwoo began their own military duties, leaving Johnny, Yuta, Haechan, Taeyong and Jaehyun to lead the current promotional cycle. The title track "Blingy" was chosen by the members themselves over rival contenders "Piñata" (favoured by management) and "Legacy" (backed by A&R), with the group emphasising an uncompromising approach to performance despite the physically gruelling rehearsal process. Taeyong also released a solo album, "WYLD," within six months of his discharge.
