Netflix Acquires Ron Howard’s ‘Avedon’ Documentary for 2026 Release, Awards Push (Exclusive)
Netflix has acquired *Avedon*, Ron Howard’s documentary about the influential photographer Richard Avedon, and plans to release it globally later in 2026 with an awards campaign. The deal gives the film a major streaming platform after its well-reviewed Cannes premiere, bringing Avedon’s work and legacy to a wider audience.
Produced by Imagine Documentaries and Fifth Season with the Richard Avedon Foundation, the film uses extensive personal archives, unseen photographs and behind-the-scenes footage, alongside interviews with close collaborators. Avedon, who died aged 81 in 2004, photographed political leaders, supermodels and cultural figures; Netflix previously worked with Imagine on the Martin Short documentary *Marty, Life Is Short*.
