Netflix Exec Andy Weil Jumping to Amazon as Head of Comedy

Variety · 2 hours ago

Andy Weil, Netflix's longtime comedy development executive, is leaving the streamer after 11 years to become Amazon's new head of comedy. He will reunite with his former Netflix boss Peter Friedlander, who now leads global TV at Amazon MGM Studios, marking a notable executive move between the two streaming rivals as they compete for comedy talent and projects.

Weil helped develop and champion several high-profile Netflix comedies, including "Master of None," "A Man on the Inside," "Nobody Wants This," "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt," "Bojack Horseman" and "Tires," as well as the Emmy-winning anthology series "Black Mirror." Before Netflix, he was VP of comedy development at Universal TV under Tracey Pakosta, who later became his boss at Netflix too, and earlier headed scripted television at BermanBraun. Weil starts at Amazon on 14 September, with Friedlander praising his "deep creative instincts" and track record in a memo to staff.
