Netflix FTX Series ‘The Altruists’ Sets November Release Date, Drops First Look Photos
Netflix will release “The Altruists”, an eight-part drama inspired by the rise and collapse of FTX figures Sam Bankman-Fried and Caroline Ellison, on 19 November. The series brings a major financial scandal to television, dramatising the ambitions and personal relationship of two figures central to the cryptocurrency exchange’s downfall.
The show’s logline says the pair tried to reshape global finance before being accused of stealing $8 billion. FTX collapsed into bankruptcy after fraud evidence emerged in November 2022, and Bankman-Fried was arrested the following month; Ellison, formerly chief executive of affiliated trading firm Alameda Research, later testified against him. Julia Garner plays Ellison and Anthony Boyle plays Bankman-Fried, while Graham Moore created the series and serves as showrunner with Jacqueline Hoyt; Barack and Michelle Obama are among its executive producers.
