NETFLIX On DEMON HUNTER’s Lawsuit Over ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ Trademark: ‘These Allegations Are Without Merit’

Blabbermouth · 3 hours ago

Netflix has publicly rejected a trademark lawsuit filed by the Christian metal band DEMON HUNTER, calling the claims "without merit" after the band's corporate entity, Hyde Lane, sued Netflix, Netflix Studios and AEG Presents. The suit, filed on 18 August 2026 in the Central District of California, alleges that the streaming giant's hit film "KPop Demon Hunters" and its associated soundtrack, merchandise and upcoming world tour infringe on the band's decades-old name, creating consumer confusion and undermining the band's commercial identity.

DEMON HUNTER, formed around 25 years ago and with a dozen studio albums to its name, argues that Netflix's 2025 film became an "unprecedented" success and that a planned 2027 concert tour spanning 150 cities, run with AEG, compounds the overlap with its own touring and merchandise business. The complaint cites an alleged real-world confusion incident from February 2026, in which a customer sought a refund for a $500 DEMON HUNTER ticket in Albany, New York, having mistaken it for a "KPop Demon Hunters" show. Netflix's spokesperson defended the film as an "Academy Award-winning global phenomenon" and said the company would "vigorously" fight the lawsuit.
