Netflix’s latest sci-fi thriller, The Last House, has recorded 27.5 million views in its first three days after debuting on 7 August. The strong opening is presented as further evidence that Netflix’s shift towards lower-budget genre films is paying off, after several costly blockbuster attempts failed to create lasting franchises.

The film follows a family forced indoors by a mysterious rain and has been compared to Bird Box and Arrival. It joins a successful 2026 run for Netflix that includes War Machine, reportedly watched around 150 million times, alongside The Rip, Apex and Thrash, all said to have exceeded 100 million views.

  • The Last House drew 27.5 million views in three days.
