Netflix has found a hit successor to The Witcher in The Haunted Palace, a 16-episode South Korean period-fantasy dramedy that has racked up 84.4 million viewing hours since its premiere in April, according to tracking site FlixPatrol. Directed by Yoon Sung-sik, the series has become a must-watch on the platform, buoyed by strong word of mouth and a twist-laden finale, offering fantasy fans an immersive new world to escape into much like Game of Thrones and The Witcher did before it.

The story follows palace official Yoon Gap (Yook Sung-jae), who becomes possessed by Gang Cheol, a mythological serpent spirit unable to ascend to the heavens after 1,000 years on Earth and now trapped in his body. Local shaman Yeo-ri (Kim Ji-yeon, known as Bona), who has long resisted her destiny as a medium, is secretly in love with Yoon Gap, her first love, and finds herself drawn into an unexpected bond with the spirit inhabiting him as she tries to leave her shamanic past behind.
