Netflix’s Forgotten 10/10 Sci-Fi Series Officially Expands for Season 2
Netflix has confirmed that Argentine sci-fi drama The Eternaut is in advanced development for a second series, following the strong reception to its 2025 debut. The new season is planned on a substantially larger scale, reflecting the programme’s international success and Netflix’s interest in continuing the story beyond a single follow-up.
Netflix’s Latin America content vice-president Francisco Ramos said work has begun on visual-effects concepts and technical planning, although filming dates have not been set and a release is hoped for in 2027. Based on a celebrated Argentine graphic novel, the first season premiered in April 2025, received 96% from critics and 88% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, and was renewed by Netflix within a week.

The Eternaut is an Argentine science-fiction drama set in Buenos Aires after a deadly snowfall brings the city to a halt. It follows Juan Salvo, an ordinary man trying to protect his family and work with other survivors as they discover a wider threat.
The series is based on El Eternauta, a much-loved 1957 graphic novel by writer Héctor Germán Oesterheld and artist Francisco Solano López. The original story is a major part of Argentine popular culture and is known for placing a group of ordinary people, rather than a lone hero, at the centre of a disaster.
Its screen version was made for Netflix by Argentine filmmakers and stars Ricardo Darín as Juan Salvo. The programme matters beyond its plot because it brings one of Latin America’s best-known comics to a global audience and represents a large-scale Argentine production for an international streaming service.
