Netflix's two massively popular dystopian game shows, Squid Game and Alice in Borderland, are concluding after their forthcoming third seasons, with the streamer also scrapping a planned US spin-off. The platform has unveiled Quiztopia, a new Japanese live-action series set to release later in 2026, which could fill the void left by these departing titles and capture audiences with a similar premise of high-stakes competition.

Quiztopia is an eight-episode series based on manga author Reiichi Sugimoto's work, set in an alternate Japan where a national quiz show holds dominion over the country. Contestants who survive the competition can claim any wish granted by the government, from wealth and fame to ownership of national landmarks. Unlike traditional dystopian narratives built on fear, audiences in this universe watch Quiztopia primarily for entertainment, though a group plans to dismantle the games entirely. The cast includes Takayuki Yamada as Quiztopia's host, KK, alongside supporting actors from popular Japanese television and film.
