## Key points

- Bodycam footage shows Guard members aiming at Johnson after he was shot.
- An autopsy finding raises questions about the official account.
- The shooting itself is not shown; the investigation continues.

## Summary

Newly released police bodycam footage shows Tennessee National Guard members pointing handguns at Tyrin Johnson as he lay on a pavement in Memphis after being shot on 5 July. A police officer calls for an ambulance and asks whether the troops have a medical kit. Johnson, 20, died at the scene. The Shelby County District Attorney’s Office released the footage on 2 November alongside recordings from street cameras and a bystander’s phone.

Authorities say Guard members were responding to reports of gunfire and shot Johnson after he turned towards them with a handgun. An autopsy report shared by his family found that he was shot in the back. The released recordings do not show his encounter with the Guard members or the shooting itself, so they cannot establish what happened at the decisive moment. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is still investigating, and the district attorney has not decided whether to bring charges.
